Uplift Ministries: An Interview

April 20, 2015

Hello everyone,

Below is an interview I did recently with Uplift Ministries visionaries, Brennan, and Karen Ayers. These two are called to minister to ministers and ministry teams right where they are in rural America. If you are interested in learning more about them please send me an email or comment at the bottom of this post.

In Christ

Megs

Me:

Good morning to you Pastors Brennan and Karen Ayers. It is a great pleasure to be talking with you today. I know that God has been doing some amazing things in and through the two of you over the past several months and I also know you are both excited about all that God is doing in this new season.

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Good morning, Meagan. It is a pleasure to be talking to you today as well. Yes, we are very excited about the new direction God has for us and what all he has been doing.

Me:

I know that you are the dreamers and visionaries behind Uplift Ministries and I want to give you the opportunity to share a bit about what we have discussed related to this ministry, but let’s talk about your branding first. Shall we?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Alright, Sis. Let’s talk branding.

Me:

What was it about me and my previous works that drew you to pulling me into the team to help lay the foundation for the branding of Uplift Ministries?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

We were wanting someone that we could work closely with that we could be pour into as they pour into us. As far as the work that drew us to using you was that your work is clear and concise. Everything that we described as what we wanted in the early stages of prayer and preparation is exactly the type of work you produce.

Me:

When you came to me for laying the foundation of what Uplift Ministries would look like to leadership at more rural churches and the overall body of Christ what were some of the visual cues that you really wanted to include? Do you think that those ideals and visual cues came across the way you originally desired?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Yes, absolutely. We were wanting something to make them feel at home and comforted. Something to let them know that this ministry is for them. Something to pull them in so fields, trees, and country settings were some of the key imagery that we wanted to somehow incorporate. What we ended up getting was exactly what we envisioned and yet, it was something more.

Me:

What were some of the Biblical principles that you really wanted to convey within your branding?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

The scripture that God really laid on our hearts when we were starting Uplift was Job 16:5, “But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief”.

Job, in this scripture, is pretty much saying “If I were in your shoes, I would…” Job is responding to his friend’s harsh words that tear down with words of comfort and strength. I believe that God has called us to visit pastors to strengthen them, encourage them, and to comfort them. We feel that our calling is to provide tools to those pastor, our friends, to be effective in their ministries where God has placed them. We aren’t a ministry bound by denominational lines and order, but rather a resource for all churches bound by the grace and provision of Jesus.

Me:

What has been the overall response to Uplift Ministries branding?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

People love it. They immediately know exactly what we are all about and they feel comforted by it.

Me:

Even though branding is one of my favorite things to talk about I really want to talk about one of my other favorite things…ministry. Can we talk about ministry for a bit?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Yes, let’s talk about ministry.

Me:

What has the overall response to Uplift Ministries been like as of today?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

It has been 100% positive. People are seeing the need for coaching, mentoring, and training of church leadership. Every rural church needs more than a vision to survive it needs a value system to have its best success.

Me:

So tell me, how has the community of churches and pastors received Uplift Ministries? Has this been a ministry that they have been craving?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Yes. Ministers have been needing something like this for years and churches are in a great need for something like this and have been for some time now. We have ministered to ministers both in and out of the church in need of a friend, a life coach, that will support them in their endeavors and equip them with the tools they will need to succeed.

Me:

Uplift is a ministry that was birthed in the two of you over the course of time. What are some of the initial things that God began to stir within you to communicate with this new ministry?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Every rural pastor needs a friend. Every rural church needs training. We saw surges in momentum with churches across the country but without structure set up for the future and for growth there is no chance of sustaining it and that is what we are here for.

Me:

Would you care to share a bit about what God has done in churches that you have been too as of today?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Ministers and volunteers have been trained and given tools to be more effected in each church that we have gone into. Many have testified of healing and receiving a sense of purpose and a clear direction for why they have been placed in a rural church. For us, that is the best part because that is exactly what God has called us to do.

Me:

I know that God has big things in store for you guys and Uplift Ministries because God never births a big dream in someone without following it up with mind blowing examples of His faithfulness, grace, mercy, and provision. What are a few words of advice that you could give to someone that has a God-sized dream?

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Keep a journal and every three months look back on what God has done and where he has brought you and give him thanks and praise for it. The purpose of looking back is to glance at what he has done and give him the highest praise for your future and build your faith for what is yet to come.

Me:

Thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedules to talk to me today about branding. I appreciate you both and look forward to seeing what God does next.

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

Every rural minister matters to God and because they matter to God, they matter to us at Uplift.

Me:

Pastor Brennan, Sister Karen thank you for taking time out of your busy lives of ministry to talk to me a bit today. I greatly appreciate it. I look forward to hearing more about what God is doing in and through you guys.

Uplift Ministries (Brennan & Karen Ayers):

No problem, Meagan. We are happy to talk with you anytime. Thank you for all that you do. We look forward to seeing what God does through you and your endeavors too.
