With the camp season approaching and applications arriving in mailboxes as early as the end of this week, I thought I would share why I love camp so much. I have been dying to share this post for months but have kept it tucked into a folder on my laptop.
There are many reasons why I love camp so much and each reason has a name. Each person I encounter at camp is family, no matter the distance or background. We are a family because we choose to be. We are a family because of Jesus. I know throughout the year there is a body of believers (my family) praying over me as I pray over them. My family is always there to share a laugh, a victory, a tear, or a defeat. I love camp because of people.
I love camp because of Jesus. Jesus makes it all worth while. No matter the crazy hours we keep, the coinciding amount of sleep deprivation, or the amount of sardine juice I always end up wearing in my shoes by the end of the week, Jesus is worth it. Being able to see campers and counselors encounter my Savior in a very real and powerful way makes it worth it.
Is camp stressful?
Do I sometimes feel overwhelmed?
Do I wonder if what we are doing is making a difference at times?
The answer to all of those questions is yes. However it is all about people…and it is all about Jesus…and that’s worth it.
See you guys in a few weeks. Get ready to encounter The One!
